-"Due to an increased interest on migration issues, we would like to inform you about the situation of Syrian refugees in Istanbul and Turkey.In September 2013, the Swedish Migrations Agency decided to grant Syrians, who apply for asylum in Sweden, permanent residence permits and this decision had a visible impact on the number of applications to the Consulate General in Istanbul.

Many of the individuals, who have been granted a residence permit, have family members that also want to settle in Sweden. These people submit their applications mainly in Ankara, Istanbul, Amman and Cairo. From 2011 to 2015 the applications have increased almost tenfold."
